Senior Tassel Toast

by Alex @ Raw Recovery on May 8, 2012

This morning I was so happy to do my Radiant Goddess meditation.  Seriously, I’m not being paid to say this, but Goddess Leonie’s work is AMAZING.  It’s like doing therapy outside of therapy but not annoying therapy- it’s fun, creative, and healing.  It makes me think about things I normally gloss over in my everyday life and I really enjoy being a part of the Goddess Circle.

Today though I got to spend some time with a really good friend of mine and I haven’t seen her in two years, so it was great to catch up in person.  When I picked her up, I told her the Tassel Toast at school was going on and she was more excited than I was about going with me.  It’s been really hard for me to get excited about graduation but I am looking forward to my family coming in this weekend and having them take me out to dinner :)

Thankfully my friend took lots of pictures of me because it’s kind of hard to hold an iPhone in one hand and a champagne flute in the other.  Our “signature” class drink was pomegranate juice and champagne…not so original or crazy but still refreshing and tasty.

The array of school themed cupcakes named after various spots on campus

A mini red velvet cupcake.  Unfortunately not vegan but I couldn’t resist so I didn’t :)

It’s 5:00 pm somewhere

Notice how I’m sitting on a tree while the rest of the Class of 2012 is listening to the toast. I was happy right where I was.

My version of chair pose and being silly, because according to my friend it looked forced when I just stood next to the fountain.  Full disclosure: I swam in that fountain once (I had the appropriate attire, don’t worry).  It’s chlorinated and I’m not the only one who has done it ;)

It’s sad that my friend (who transferred from my school halfway through our sophomore year) knew more people than I did.  Seriously.  Anyway, as soon as the toast was over and we gave a few Anassas (school chant in Greek) as a class, I grabbed my goodie bag and left.  Inside was this:

A champagne flute and my tassel, along with a book written by an alumna, a plastic duck with some candy in it (we have this thing about ducks at my school), a business card holder, and some random coasters that I won’t ever use looking the way they do but might cover up and make them look pretty and then use them!

After the toast we enjoyed lunch at a nearby Corner Bakery and walked into a few stationary stores before heading back to my place for a little bit.  My friend got to meet Angie, who was oh so excited to have someone new to jump on! Then we had to leave for the train station and it was bittersweet because I really miss having my friend close by.

I was sad to have her leave but it was really good to see her and to have someone to go to the toast with.  I still have yet to ring the bell (a tradition allowed only when seniors finish all of their class work) but I really want someone to take a picture of me as I do it. We couldn’t do it today because exams were going on for the non-seniors and I didn’t want to be that obnoxious and disrespectful senior who rings a loud bell in the same building where final exams are being taken.  I’ve been waiting 5 years to ring that bell so I deserve some evidence of it! I’ll just have to wait until my family gets in and exams are over.

Well friends, I’m off to bed because this one is tired:

This was actually taken a few days ago, she’s asleep on the couch right now.  She must be tired from waking me up at 6 am! I had the pleasure of seeing the crazy dedicated fitness people who work out in the parking lot of my apartment complex at the ungodly hour. Angie is always fascinated by them as am I, but I desperately needed more sleep.

Angie also started whimpering when we dropped my friend off at the train station.  It was really cute because she had only just met her.  I have such a sweet little dog who just needs training to not jump on people and then she’d be perfect.  Oh and if she could stop trying to eat random things (like a dead frog-eww, trust me I know- and no she didn’t eat it) that’d be great too.  Unfortunately, Angie doesn’t read my blog.  Sigh.

Have a wonderful evening!

I do too! It was a really good day and I’m thankful that she came out to visit me. We have a lot of fun together and there was a lot of laughter, which I need more of in my life.

Red Velvet cupcakes (or whatever variation) is easily my favourite. I find though that it is very easy to mess up red velvet and make it too salty or too processed tasting. That cupcake looks lovely.

They were definitely delicious! I’ve only made red velvet cupcakes once, and it was from the Sprinkle’s Cupcake mix, but I’ve heard it’s a delicate process to make from scratch. Nevertheless, they are utterly delicious!
